Emotional & Behavioural
We all like to feel safe, acknowledged and in control. When these three fundamental human needs are satisfied, we feel happy and confident. If any one of these needs is not satisfied, we will attempt to change things in order to address that need. Each of us does the best we can with what we know but none of us knows everything. If we are pushed beyond our particular comfort zone by others, we may well feel that our safety is threatened. Little wonder then that if a child who is struggling to read in class is then asked to read in front of classmates, this may trigger an uncooperative response in the child. That response is their way of attempting to regain control and a sense of safety in a situation that they feel far from secure in.
The Sunflower practitioner understands that if a child is behaving in a disruptive way, it is very often because they feel threatened in some way. The practitioner also understands that if a child lives for a long time with a sense of insecurity and fear, they are likely to move in a tense way. This may well lead to physical imbalance or discomfort. Because the Sunflower Programme provides a totally integrated approach to health and wellbeing, a child's physical and emotional balance can be examined in relation to behaviour. Using techniques that work with the principles of nature, the Sunflower practitioner is able to work with the child, helping them to find a new sense of balance on a variety of levels. Naturally balanced children feel happier, more positive and have a sense of general wellbeing.
